The industry's total revenue makes up 19.92% to the country's Gross domestic product (GDP) in 2016, compared to 19.26% for 2015 and 16.62% in 2014.
A total of 437,697 people were employed in the Retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles industry in 2016, compared to 420,434 in 2015 and 393,684 in 2014.
Most of the companies in the industry are based in Bucharest, followed by Constanta and Dolj.
